It is rare to find a chicken coop that is actually designed with both the chickens and the people who clean up after them in mind. This coop has managed to do this brilliantly. Not only that, this recycled plastic chicken coop is a unique modern design but with a very traditional twist. More info on how to choose a chicken coop.
Recycled Plastic Coops are Good for the Planet
It is made from 12mm thick 100% recycled plastic and is solid and heavy. The Henlays Roost chicken coop is made from recycled plastic which has saved 65kg of plastic going to land-fill, so it has green credentials and will look as good as new for years to come.
Great for the Chickens
The perches are well spaced so avoiding night-time squabbles from the little darlings.
Ventilation is a slot underneath the roofline which draws air through using a chimney effect from ventilation holes front and back. A lot of coops lack proper ventilation which is essential for the respiratory health and comfort of your chickens.
A spacious and private nesting area is in the rear so the chickens feel comfy and safe when laying.
The whole chicken coop is on legs which are high enough to allow the housing of a dust bath underneath. It also means that vermin have no place to hide.
The space underneath also gives them a useful refuge from rain or sun.
Perfect for you
Cleaning is a breeze because you don’t have to bend double to do it – especially great for those of us with bad backs or mobility issues. Each roof panel removes giving total access to the inside. There are virtually no inaccessible nooks and crannies in this chicken coop for red mite to hide. The surface is smooth and so easy to scrape or wash down if you need to. We recommend treating all interior surfaces with Pest Expert Formula C+ spray which will make sure Red Mite don’t get a foothold in your coop. (Needs repeating every 12 weeks – as with all coops). Read our blog article on Red Mite here for additional recommendations.
It is very easy to customise with a DIY paint job so it has a wow factor in your garden and will definitely be the envy of all your chicken keeping friends. Thorndown wood paints are recommended to personalise your chicken coop as they cover brilliantly and are quick to do. They do mail order and when I ordered some it came next day. It takes 750ml size to give a few coats as in the pictures. Thorndown Website.
The design also allows the use of a Chickenguard automatic door opener, so a win-win on the security and convenience stakes. Other door openers (with the exception of the Omlet one) will probably also fit but measure carefully. We are also stocking Chickenguard Premium
